Frequently asked questions: Software & Licenses
The license servers of the Universität Stuttgart can only be accessed within the university network.
So please make sure that you are within this network. If you want to use a software from home, you can log into the campus network via VPN.
If you cannot connect to the license servers despite being connected to the campus network, it is possible that license servers have been changed or moved. You can find information about this on the Software & Licenses service page, under the respective programs.
Please try to run the program as administrator. To do so, right-click on the executable file and select "Run as administrator".
You don't need to worry - the licences of the Universität Stuttgart are renewed every year, usually at the beginning of the year. You can ignore the warning. If the warning still appears or the program no longer works, please visit the service page for software & licenses. Here you will find changes or hints if the license servers or similar have changed.
Only registered students and employees of the Universität Stuttgart are entitled to the programs and licenses.
Inquiries and requests concerning software & licenses can be made via the contact form.
Frequently asked questions: Software & licenses for students
Under Software and Licenses for Students you will find information about the different software and the corresponding links to the installation files.
For user authentication you need the student email address or the short form st123456 and the corresponding password.
Please read the software instructions under Software and Licenses for Students again and check your VPN connection. If necessary, there might be a change of the server names. Please refer to the corresponding change instructions.
Currently, almost all German universities have the same problem. This is due to the fact that Microsoft does not provide a working way for user authorization. The license terms require that only MINT students get Imagine Premium (or Azure Dev Tools Premium). However, the enrolment mechanisms do not allow universities to pass on the Premium authorisation as was the case with the old Imagine system.
If Microsoft presents a solution, the TIK will work on a deployment as soon as possible.
However, there is an alternative way to get a Windows upgrade. This can be obtained from www.bildung365.de, but costs 4 € per year.
A Windows base license is required in each case, since both are upgrade licenses.

A total of 20 licenses of FlexPro are available for the University of Stuttgart.
Therefore, always inform us when the license is no longer needed or do not pass on the key.
The Tik does not offer a license for Wolfram Alpha Pro, please use the Educational Version on the following website http://www.wolframalpha.com/pro/pricing/educators/
The TIK currently does not offer a Skype service.
For the use of Skype for Business, a "company" internal Skype server would be necessary, which does not exist at the University of Stuttgart so far. Decentralized Skype servers in the institutes cannot be operated either, because this would require quite extensive changes to our network configuration, which are currently not planned.
An external Skype server may not be used for data protection reasons, because personal data would then be processed outside the University network in an uncontrolled way.
